- Robust governance. Just as every successful organisation needs effective leadership and clear decision-making processes, your AI efforts require strong governance. This means establishing clear accountability, decision-making protocols, and ethical standards for AI development and deployment. - Rigorous data management policies. Data is the lifeblood of AI, but it must be handled with care. Rigorous data governance ensures the quality, security, privacy, and ethical use of data throughout the AI lifecycle. This includes everything from data collection and preprocessing to storage and access controls. Proper data management helps you derive valuable insights from data while avoiding the reputational and regulatory risks of data mishandling.

- Transparency and explainability. AI systems must be traceable and comprehensible to operators and stakeholders alike, despite the very real fact that AI’s inherent complexity makes cross-functional understandability difficult. Robust principles seek to clearly identify AI-powered systems, explicitly communicate capabilities and limitations, and provide mechanisms to explain decisions.
- People-centricity. Above all, RAI must maintain a people-centric focus. AI systems should augment rather than replace human decision-making and offer robust mechanisms for human oversight and control. This ensures AI aligns with human values and rights to empower—not simply replace—people. Keeping an open, transparent dialogue with employees is critical. Principles should establish mechanisms such as change networks that are empowered to powerfully advocate for change, model behaviour, and provide peer support. These human-centric mechanisms should go beyond one-off training, providing ongoing learning journeys that progressively build RAI knowledge and skills with nudges and reinforcement.
